Several days ago recent rains stained the waters of a favorite stream and Terry’s streamers were completely ignored. Thirty minutes of casting futility ended when a size-8 orange popper replaced the streamer. Retrieves needed an aggressive strip to give him a water-pushing “pop.” The sound enabled the bass to locate the lure and subsequent subtle strips brought the first of many smashing strikes from the largemouth bass. Most hits resulted in head-shaking leaps and dogged dives for bottom structure. The final catch was an evening’s best 16-incher.
