A 3-wt. rod with 4X tippet and Sponge Spiders accompanied an evening stream wade in anticipation of catching “mean greenies” and longear sunfish. Many were landed before approaching a rocky pool tailout where smallmouths attacked the gently twitched spiders. Most of the 7 bronzebacks brought to hand were 9- to 11-inchers but the pictured 15-incher leaped four times and bulldozed through the boulder-strewn substrate as the light rod bent nearly double and bounced wildly.
