Cooler weather prompted a wet-wading trip to a favorite stretch of stream that flows into an 8,000-acre reservoir tonight. Big bluegills from the lake are frequently located in the slack pools. A 3-weight and size-10 dark-colored Bully Spiders brought 16 bluegills of 7 to 8 inches to hand before surface swirls prompted a switch to poppers and Sponge Spiders. Twenty more deep-bodied bluegills were netted and released before the call of a Barred Owl signaled the approaching darkness.
