A large threatening cloud drifted south of the pond as I launched the float tube. Armed with a 6 wt. rod, floating line, and a 9-ft. leader with an 8-lb. tippet and our new H.O.T. Streamer (Hold On Tight Streamer), I began casting at the edges of the weed line. Each time the fly was allowed to sink to a depth of about 4 feet before lifting the rod tip about 2 ft. then dropping the rod tip back to its original position. I then stripped the line to remove the slack before repeating the process. The vibration of the fly’s tail and its silhouette triggered largemouth bass to strike violently and many of 1-1/2 to 3 lbs. were landed and released.
