With fishing options limited by intense heat and high, muddy rivers a late-evening float tube trip to a shady pond was just the ticket. At forty-five minutes until dark we returned to our launch site to change rods to a 4-wt. with floating line and sponge spiders to address the telltale kissing sounds of insect-feeding bluegills. After a dozen of 7 to 8 inches later we exited the pond in total darkness.
