Some mistakenly believe that the movements of bass and bluegills into the shallows is related to the spawn. Instead, they are drawn to the degree or two of increased warmth that the shallows afford. This hikes the fish’s metabolism which stimulates their need to feed. Remember that these fish spent the winter in the deepest and darkest recesses of the pond, lake or stream and they’re easily spooked. Careful stalking and gentle casts will enable more hookups.
